Key performance
  • To maintain melting processes by analysing data to ensure the quality of the casting is not impaired at any time.
  • Ensure metallurgical integrity of all cast products.
  • To research new products and trial them to see how quality can be improved by using such products.
  • To initiate and follow up on trials cast for product and process improvement.
  • To analyse casting scrap for defects.
  • Interpret various data to see how it can be used in resolving scrap problems or reducing them.
  • To ensure that process and procedures are updated and adhered to.
  • Ensure correct raw material testing / process control is carried out to ensure process capability.
  • To review exiting plant and equipment and make recommendations to improve / replace.
  • Co-operate with Plant Metallurgist to ensure accurate metallurgical reporting and defect analysis.
  • To produce various reports.
  • To monitor casting defect trends and react to ensure that defects are always in the downward trend.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement process.
  • Training of melting personnel.
  • Supervise training Metallurgical Engineer.
  • Facilitate team based management and world class teams.
  • Assist in preparation of annual melting budgets.
  • Assist melting personnel in solving of any technical problems.
  • Ensure Melting Department compliance with OHS Act and ISO 14000.
