Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provides supervision for the staff employed in the Payroll Department.
                                           Supervision Received:
  • Minimum supervision received as the incumbent is working as a specialist in the finance field. 
  • An employee in this classification works under the general supervision and direction of the Financial Manager and is allowed limited initiative and judgement in accordance with established policies. 
 Major Responsibilities and Tasks:Financial Functions:
  • Keeping abreast of laws and regulations that apply to a particular staff function or field of professional expertise to maintain up-to-date compliance
  • Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports
  • Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts
  • Provides information to staff and individuals or organizations inside the group
  • Performs reconciliations of various general ledger account
  • On a regular and continuous basis, exercises administrative judgement and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area
  • Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate, requiring  good oral and written communication skills
  Department Functions:
  • Responsible for the overall supervision of the Payroll Department’s operational and administrative functioning
  • Identify training needs of staff employed within the department.
  • Assist with and train staff employed within the department and assist staff on a continuous basis with the performance of their duties.
  • Compose and co-ordinates correspondence, receiving documentation, maintaining of files, records and reports
 
  • The incumbent submits the following types of decisions to the Financial Manager:
  • Work allocation and co-ordination of work assignments,
  • Request for employee recruitment/termination,
  • New policies and procedures
  • Any non-routine actions concerning the company
